Hi, and welcome to Module 1 of SEO Simplified, The Intro to SEO.
Now today we're going to talk a bit about what SEO is, how it started, how it's changed from then to now, and a wide variety of other things.
So for starters, SEO is Search Engine Optimization, and it started with the dawn of search engines. Now search engines have a relatively simple goal, or at least it sounds simple, which is: if somebody asks them a question, find them the right answer.
If you go to Google and search for Used Cars Near Raleigh NC, you want to find a dealership that's really close to where you are in that location. So search engines are all about answering questions with relevant information.
So we're going to walk through the history of search engines, particularly Google's rise to dominance, and the things that they did that made them different from their competitors.
We're going to talk a lot about early SEO, things that used to work and why, as well as why they've changed and how the algorithm has changed over the years.
We're going to dive into the different ranking factors that make up "The Algorithm". We're going to talk about the different facets of SEO.
Now SEO is a very, very broad discipline. You could say local SEO, video SEO, international SEO, image search SEO, app store SEO, even voice search SEO. There are a lot of different ways people search for information, and depending on where you want to show up, you need to have your content optimized for those different places.
We're going to talk about today's SEO. Things have changed a lot over the years, and what works today is not what worked yesterday, and what's going to work tomorrow may be totally different. So understanding how things have changed can help you to see where things are going to be going.
We're also going to talk a bit about why SEO is important, in general, how it can affect your business, and on from there.
